I am a bad bloggerJune 7, 2013

I am a bad blogger. No doubt about it. I used to love to post to my blog (lowils.wordpress.com) and I was so excited to start a web site a year ago because I wanted to have a really cool blog. Aaaaannnnddddd I think I have blogged like 8 times. Obviously I didn’t stick to it. I am so mad that the older you get the fast time speeds by and the longer your to do list gets. I totally take back all the naps I didn’t take in kindergarden and all the afternoons in college when I was bored. I just want 2 more hours in the day. A 26 hour day sounds so much more attractive to me.

Since I am so terrible I invite you to follow me at facebook.com/loriwilsonphotography I actually post pics there. I think it is because it is so easy to post from my phone (Note to self: figure out if I can blog from my phone).

Here are a few favorite photos to share so that you can catch up on my MIA status.

Lauren and Greg Maternity | Dallas, TXFebruary 19, 2013

I am a little behind on blogging so these photos do not reflect how much Connor has grown in Lauren’s tummy. I went to school with Lauren and Greg and it has been so fun to continue our friendship post grad. Lauren always has the best one liners and I have enjoyed becoming adults together after Oklahoma State. Greg’s mom and my mom were Pi Phi’s together and apparently we used to get their Christmas card photos growing up (fun fact of the day!). So when I told my mom I was taking their maternity photos, she was more than thrilled.

I just loved taking their photos. I literally squealed all through out the shoot. We shot these at White Rock Lake in Dallas, and what you don’t know is that there were cars, cyclists and runners all around us. At first glance it looks like we are far aways from city life, yet we are still in the heart of it.

Congrats Lauren and Greg. I am so thrilled for you two!

Photographing LincolnFebruary 19, 2013

I love taking photos of kids. By far, photographing kids is my favorite photography subject. Why you may ask? Because they are so real. They look into the camera and aren’t worried about their hair or how they look. They haven’t realized how cruel the world can be yet. They are still so innocent. My big sister just had a baby six months ago and while I used to hate looking at facebook posts of babies and kids, I now text her all the time for more photos of Lincoln. I have become one of the facebook posters that  I used to unfriend when I saw them rubbing their cute kid into my news feed.

One thing I have learned from taking photos of Lincoln is that taking photos of a baby is a big test. The learning curve can be steap and isn’t for the weak. Here are a few lessons from my nephew, Lincoln.

Lincoln’s lesson number one:

Patience my dear.

From his newborn photos to his every day, he is constantly moving and shaking.

If I don’t/didn’t have patience, I will never get a shot like this (which I love!).

Lincoln’s Lesson number two:

Persistence. Persistence. Persistence.

It is never enough to take just one photo. You must take many. A photographer told me once, if you aren’t taking a bad photo, then you aren’t taking enough.

Lincoln’s Lesson Number Three:

Babies learn through touch. So, be prepared for little hands…

“Aunt Lori, I want to touch the thing in your hands. NOW!”

“Now I am distracted.”

Lincoln’s Lesson Number Four:

Take a LOT of photos.

Since babies can’t talk, they express. When I talk, my expression changes 20 times in a minute, so naturally my blood relative does the same.

Oh, the many faces of Lincoln.

So I keep clicking till I know I have the photo that I want.

Lincoln’s Lesson Number Five:

You have to be willing to make some crazy noise and be very interesting for babies to pay attention to you the entire time. Also take a good team that can also get the baby’s attention.

Lincoln’s Lesson Number Six:

Be prepared for fits.

Thanks for being a great teacher Lincoln!

How I See ItJanuary 4, 2013

With Lori Wilson Photography being a part time gig, there are times that I feel like I neglect my site and blog. My full time gig gets extremely busy in the 4th quarter (my mind always goes to football when I think of that. Why can’t we still call it semesters?) I typical drop off the face of the earth. Everything from family to friends to Facebook gets neglected. So now that I am picking up the pieces and remembering what my life is like, I decided to do a quick photo update. Here are a few of my favorite photos from shoots from the 4th quarter.

Happy 2013!
