Boy’s Only Camp Out | Styled Shoot | DallasApril 12, 2016

Do you ever sit there and day dream about an idea and think of all the ways of how great it will be? I certainly do. Every now and then I’ll think of a photo I want to take and I’ll start imagining the perfect light, outfit, expression, props, location, even the right amount of wind. Then I get to the shoot that I tried so hard to plan out perfectly and I remind myself that “life does not always turn out the way you plan”. So true. This quote is said by Sandra Bullock at the beginning of While You Were Sleeping (great movie that everyone should see and probably own!) and it has stuck with me.

The best part about this quote is her dad was the one who said it to her and as she was telling the audience the quote, she followed it up with “I just didn’t realized at the time he was talking about my life.” Even more true.

So back to my daydream – I imagined this cute rustic boys only camp out styled shoot and figured I would try it on my nephew. I imagined a raccoon skin cap like Davy Crockett, a manly vest and maybe wood to look like a fire. And a really cool forest look. And the perfect golden hour light. Very minimal wind.

I had everything all ready, a location in mind, the vest in hand, the set up in my car…buuutttt then we had a time crunch and a 3 year old that didn’t want to deal with driving to a forest nor did he want to wear his manly camp out man vest. Nor did he really want to take any photos.

But even though kids are unpredictable and time sometimes is not on our side, my cute nephew still posed for me in my boys only camp out and I got some sweet photos of him.

Side note – You can totally see my parent’s house in the background but it reminds me of the times my dad would set up the actual tent in the backyard and we’d “camp out”…in between the swings and the pool.

All that to say, if you are interested in scheduling a time with me to shoot a boys only camp out, let me know. I would love to take your photos!

Port Aransas, TexasMarch 31, 2016

I made it down to Port Aransas for two weekends this month – one for a shoot and one for pleasure. I always love being near the ocean. I am a water person and being near it just makes me think clearly and helps me reboot from this busy life. Here are some of the photos of the scenes that I saw.

Lyla and BooneMarch 28, 2016

Lyla and Boone are the cutest and coolest names ever. It sounds like a book title  – “The Adventures of Lyla and Boone” or a band name Lyla & Boone – I can already see their logo.

One of my goals as a photographer is not only to help families see how beautiful they are but to also capture real honest moments that are special to the family. While I love looking at our family portraits from childhood I really love the photos where I am wearing snow boots in the summer or my hair is an absolute mess. I  love those images so much because they show my personality and my uniqueness. So I strive to capture those moments for each of my families. Boone did not want to sit in that chair with Lyla so we tried and tried but had little success. The image of him almost laying down in the chair was one of my favorites and one of his mom’s favorites too. It was just so Boone. To the viewer they may not think it is a framer but if he were my kid I would print it as an 8 by 10 and hang it in the living room.

Tucker’s Snow DayFebruary 27, 2015

It snowed today in Dallas which is hard to believe since the weather was in the 60s and 70s this past weekend. Since I work from home I am going to be totally honest and tell you that I stayed in my PJs (It was an extremely casual Friday here at Lori Wilson Photography) until just before my fiancé, Wes, came home. And the only reason I got dressed was to look nice for Wes who  asked why I had nice clothes and a sparkly hat on. Total fail.

My black lab, Tucker, loves the snow. The kid (or pup) in him completely emerges when there is snow or ice on the ground. He loves watching to snow kick up when I walk and he thinks snowballs are the best but he’s so confused when they disappear.

I love his energy.

He had his own little photo shoot outside while his step-sister, Ramona, sat all nice and pretty inside where it was warm. He shows up so nicely with a white background and I love how you can see his breath.

Fair Park | Dallas, TXJanuary 15, 2015

My friend, Samuel Melton, and I met up this past week to explore Fair Park and to just have fun taking photos. After a busy Fall filled with photo sessions, it was great to just take photos of whatever.

Samuel is a fantastic film photographer so while he shot on his film camera I used my digital 5D Mark III.

Goal for 2015 – grab my mom’s old Olympus and shoot at least one role of film. Easy enough, right? Hopefully I won’t over expose all the photos?

Well until I tackle that goal here are my photos from our day o’ play. It was cool to see Samuel’s face through his lens!

Enjoy!
