This first photos melts my heart and reminds me that life doesn’t have to be perfectly posed to be fun. I have known John Paul and Katie for a few years now but this was my first time to meet Libby. As they were getting out of the car, Katie warned me that Libby doesn’t like to smile at the camera. That was not the first time a parent has told me that as we started our photo session. And that is actually what I love about kids most.

They do what feels right, even if it isn’t “picture perfect”. I quickly realized that my “tricks” and “hats” (please note the bunny ears on Libby) would not make her smile, so instead we played. This first photo was just Libby being Libby – running around and having fun. And honestly it is one of my favorites. Ever. I think all of us have that spirit in us, we just do not always let it out as frequently as kids do. It may not be the perfectly posed and smiling photos like many of us hope for, but it shows Libby’s heart and spirit. For the other photos where she is looking and smiling? Well, we had M&M’s and were giving them to her. I guess when the tricks, hats and play time still does not work, always turn to candy, right?

Enjoy!
